IGP (formerly Schutzhund)
IGP is the international working-dog sport formerly known as Schutzhund and IPO. Every trial tests the same dog in tracking, obedience and protection, so a title shows a dog that can work with focus, control and courage.
How IGP works
- Tracking: The dog follows a laid track with its nose down and indicates articles left along the way.
- Obedience: Heeling, retrieves, send-away and position changes, judged on precision and attitude.
- Protection: Blind search, hold and bark, and grips on the helper's sleeve, with clean outs on command.
Dogs pass the BH-VT companion test first, then work toward IGP1, IGP2 and IGP3.
